Named after Maria’s mother-in-law, to whom the original fabric belonged, the print is a captivating, checkered assemblage featuring a fragile and decadent embroidered Chinese fabric as its centerpiece. Nearby, symbols of coral reefs appear and disappear, referencing the quickly vanishing rainforests of the sea. Inspired by Huda’s sister Rasha, and one of her paintings in particular, the Blast print is an interpretation of the artist and her art, or more accurately, her beautiful spirit translated into a print. It is also a reflection on the theme: the fragility of a rose, the fragility of beauty; how it disappears with the wind. The colors, from bright and peak vibrant to peak decay, depict the circle of life.
