A tapestry in five panels, made in our atelier for Toyota in Qatar.
Read from left to right, it travels from old Qatar to the Doha of today. A mud-brick fort flies the Qatari flag above the dunes, where two camels walk. A great sun hangs over palms, flowering desert plants and stacked mud towers. In the centre a falconer in ghutra and bisht raises his falcon against a lattice of tile-like pieces and the silver skyline of the city. Two Arabian oryx stand on a red dune while a white four-by-four climbs below them, and in the last panel a second one crosses the sand towards a modern tower carrying the aam mark and the Toyota name.
Everything is cloth and thread, appliquéd, padded and stitched in relief, with loose fibre for the sand thrown up by the wheels.
