CNTRAVELER - When a devastating explosion tore through Beirut, Lebanon, last summer, the capital city's independent artists and designers, whose jewel box shops and busy studios fill the neighborhoods closest to the blast zone, were among those particularly impacted. For the country it was the latest tragedy in a year already marked by the pandemic and a collapsed economy.

VOGUE - “Glass has become a rare commodity,” says Huda Baroudi, one of the founders of Beirut-based design studio Bokja, whose ateliers were damaged in the August 4 blast that took more than 190 lives and injured at least 6,000.
BLOOMBERG - It’s been two months since the blast, and Maria Hibri has glued together the splintered filigree from her triple-arched windows. In a bathroom, the broken sink stays broken, a reminder of the day her world blew apart.
DEZEEN - Hoda Baroudi and Maria Hibri have transformed the Bokja showroom in Beirut into a community centre where people can bring home furnishings damaged in last month's Beirut explosion to be repaired using signature red stitchwork.
